Hotels-live.com - Today, for the first time in pro surfing history, an event was called off due to giant surf. The Maui and Sons Arica Pro was actually put on hold last week due to another massive swell, but today was the last day of the waiting period and the contest site of El Gringo was 20-foot-plus and washing through. Officials were unable to snag the permits to move the event to El Buey, which was handling the giant swell (see pic) and the four semifinalists were forced to split the points and prizemoney.
